Once Jackson went down for a nap this afternoon I took everything out to paint again. I looked up some pictures of honeycomb and sketched the pattern out on paper. I mixed yellows, gold and browns for a while to get the exact tones I wanted. I did a lot of layering starting with the browns in the background. I added more gold to the top lighter comb pattern, it has a subtle shine in person. It took about two hours from start to photographing. I cleaned up a few areas around the bee and framed them together. Both paintings are 4×6 on canvas paper. I think I want to paint more bees in different flying positions. What do you think? 🙂
